A Hand from Heaven

On Saturday Jan 23, 2010, I was watching CNN and was seeing how a firefighter was trying to rescue a dog that seemed to have walked into an overflowing river. The firefighter was dropped down by a line from a helicopter, to save the dog.  As the dog was being rescued, I could see how the scared dog was wriggling through the arms of the fire fighter.  The dog did not realize that this man was trying to save him, but continued to wriggle to get out of the arms of this man.  Finally, when the firefighter put the dog down on solid ground the dog bit the hand of the firefighter.  The firefighter was then treated for his injury.

The same day, as I was praying the Lord’s Spirit reminded me of that incident and showed me how many times, we all are similar to the dog. Many of us walk into danger and situations that jeopardize our lives, either knowingly or unknowingly. This gets us scared and worried, however we fail to realize that God has already begun the process to drop a line from heaven to airlift us from the problem to safety.  However, as we are being airlifted we continue to wriggle by getting upset with the situation, angry at God, or perhaps disillusioned and discouraged. We keep asking God as to why he is not saving us; but seem to ignore the fact that God is already working through the situation and he is there before we asked him for help with his rescue helicopter (maybe someone God sends to help or some other circumstances) to save us. He himself is there to carry us out of the circumstance, but at that moment we fail to realize that God is working to bring us out of trouble. During our rescue we even try to bite God like the dog, with all our bitter words and our foolish actions. In spite of that, the ironic thing is that, even then God continues to love us, because his one desire is to save us forever and not just for an instance.

God reminded me that if we are calm in these situations and are fully trusting in our Lord God Almighty.  Then our journey out of trouble, in the hands of God, would be so memorable that we will have an awesome testimony to share with others of God’s faithfulness and love. Psalm 23 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

How about you? Are you willing to allow God to carry you through your troubles? Will you stay calm, as He carries you through your trials? Will you hold on to that hand from Heaven? When you are rescued will you take a moment to praise God who has risked himself for you?
