The Tree of Life

In the world we live in, there are many people who believe that God is an unjust God. He does not love us, nor does He care for us. Some even think that how can a loving God allow people to go to Hell or even allow people to suffer. Some believe that God is responsible for all the bad things that happen in our life. Is this really true?

The first book of the Bible tells us the creation story, where he created two unique trees, “the tree of life” and “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” In Genesis 2 we see that God forbids Adam and Eve to eat from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” However, the interesting thing to note here is that he never forbids them from eating from the “tree of life” or from any other tree in the Garden. It is noteworthy to see that the devil comes in the form of a snake and deceives Eve to eat from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Adam and Eve choose this willingly in spite of knowing that it was wrong. The consequence – they are banished from the Garden of Eden and all of mankind is prevented from the garden and from the “Tree of life.”

God always wanted Adam and Eve to obtain the fruit from the “Tree of life.” He never forbade them. However, the devil never wants man to eat from the “Tree of life”, since his objective is to “steal, kill and destroy” all the people on this earth. However, many of us fail to recognize this reality and deception. Then we land up making foolish choices leading to disastrous consequences.

Our life is reflected by the choices we make. When God asks us to be faithful to our spouses, some choose other sexual promiscuity and end up in divorce. When God gives us a good husband and asks us to respect him, some chose to disrespect them thus becoming a thorn in their flesh. When God gives us a good job, some choose to be lazy and steal thereby losing the job or even go to jail. When God gives us His Word the Bible, some choose to avoid reading it and learning about life from it, but rather make foolish choices leading to ruin and disaster. When God tells us to be satisfied with what we have and trust in Him in everything for our needs and wants. But we chose to get into debt through loans and are in trouble when we cannot pay it back, or get angry at Him for not meeting our desires when our desires are more focused on our wants, even though he has met our needs. Finally, some get depressed with our situation goes haywire, and because of our poor decisions. Is God really responsible?

Isn’t it interesting to note that God wants to give us a life and blessing, but we always seem to be choosing things that lead to make our life a living hell on this earth? Is God truly responsible for our poor choices? No, not at all! We are the ones responsible; we seem to be continuing to pick the fruit from the wrong tree!

In spite of all our poor choices that we may have made, if there is one critical choice that we all need to make before we leave this earth…is the choice for our Life.

God loves us so much that He went to the extent of sending His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. He destroyed the power of sin and death. We can either choose the fruit from the “Tree of Life,” that is “Him” and have eternal life or simply do nothing and walk from this life into default eternal death. Our chance to choose His work on the cross ends when we take our last breath.

The choice here too is with us and not with God.
