Moonlight

When I was a young kid I used to love watching the stars and the moon in a dark night sky.  I used to wonder how the moon shined and brought light to this dark earth.  It was in my science class that I understood that the Moon does not have any light of its own, since it has no internal source of energy, like the Sun. What we call moonlight was secondary light produced by light hitting the surface of the Moon. The beautiful moonlight was actually reflected sunlight. Another thing that I found interesting was that the moon had a dark spots. However, these dark spots were overshadowed by the magnificence and beauty of the moonlight.

As we examine our lives we too can find some dark spots. On our own we too are like the moon. We too do not have a light of our own, since our life is marred with sin. As we journey through life’s struggles, we will be able to see our true nature revealed with pride, selfishness, wickedness, lust, fights, quarrels, hatred…etc.

Bible tells us the story of Isaiah, who saw the Lord God seated on a throne (Isaiah 6:5-7) and immediately his life was transformed, as God’s glory shined on him. He immediately recognized his own sinful nature and he sought the forgiveness of all his sins. That encounter with God changed his life. He went on to become one of the greatest prophets of God, who is widely known among the Jewish and Christian circles for his prophesies about Jesus.

Today, as I read Psalm 80:3 Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.I am reminded of the moonlight. When God causes His face to shine upon our lives, we too will be changed. We will no longer be doing the things we did in the past.  The dark spots in our lives will get exposed in front of the Holy God. We will have an opportunity to seek forgiveness and be cleansed from our old sinful nature. Then God’s glory will begin to overshadow the dark spots from our lives. Like the moon we too will start reflecting God’s glory (light) into this dark world.

I am not sure, if you will have an Isaiah experience, but I am confident that if you allow Jesus into your life, you too will have the glory of God shining in your life through the power of His Holy Spirit. You too will be restored, saved and transformed forever.  You will become like the moon that shines in the dark world, reflecting God’s glory forever.
