Waiting for God's time, as we are stuck in our Ark!

How would you like to live in a closed ship with no windows to look out and no deck to walk on for almost 370 days?  Genesis 7 and 8 tells us about Noah and his family living in similar conditions. It begins when the, “LORD said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household…..And the LORD shut him in.” As the days and nights passed Noah and his family were getting tired of staying in the ark with hundreds of animals and the fragrance of animal and human excreta. Surely it was neither a joy ride nor a luxury cruise trip for them. I presume, they were getting to a point where they could not take it any longer. As the waters receded Noah sends out a second dove which never comes back. He then opens the covering of the ark and sees that the land was dry, but he did not leave the ark. At this time that it was possible that if he opened the main door prematurely that the animals and his own family might be drowned in the receding waters.

Some of us have had similar experiences as been “in the ark” while there are others who are still “stuck in the ark.” Like Noah we too get desperate and resort to do things to understand how we can get out of our situation. Noah’s actions teach us a powerful lesson that is, when we are “stuck in an ark,” it is important for us to stay there until the Lord speaks to us or tells us to leave. Many times, we do things to get out of a situation or perhaps leave family members, churches, relationships, or workplaces without really seeking the Lord. We seem to justify ourselves by saying that my needs are not being met – I am unhappy! She does not care for me! My boss does not respect me!

It is amazing to see that until “God said to Noah, “Go out from the ark..” he did not leave the ark even though he could see dry land.  We forget that the Lord is the one who brought us into the ark in the first place or allowed a circumstance or a challenging relationship to come into our life. He is the one who will tell us to leave or get us out of the problem in the right time. Until then it is safer for us to stay and learn what the Lord is trying to teach. The Lord protected Noah and his family and blessed them. The Lord loves you like he loved Noah. Can you trust in Him and in his mercies today? Can you wait for His time and His word?
